Internet2 IPv6 Working Group Charter
Over the last two years, the WG has succeeded in deploying an IPv6 network
within the Abilene infrastructure, and integrating the resultant network
with other large scale IPv6 networks.
The Internet2 IPv6 Working Group aims to make IPv6 an effective tool for
the Internet2 community and, in so doing, to contribute to the IPv6 work in
the broader Internet by exercising, proliferating, and improving IPv6
infrastructure and software in the Internet2 context.
The activities of the working group divide into three distinct though
related areas.
- The Engineering/Operational area is organized to build, cultivate, and
operate a nationwide IPv6 network as an effective part of the Internet2
infrastructure to support the research and education needs of our community.
- The Educational area aims to provide campus engineers the information
they need to deploy and support IPv6 within their campuses.
- The Motivational area aims to clarify, both for campus decision-makers
and for IPv6 leaders, why IPv6 will be valuable, in strategic and in
practical terms, to the Internet2 user community. In other words, we
want our members to understand why they should apply limited resources from
within the campus to deployment and integration of IPv6.
